| creator’s note

Written/directed BY C. Emanuel Smith

"Male Pattern Boredness" is a creative endeavor that fuses my personal journey with the imaginative realms of Afro-surrealism. Rooted in the vibrant energy of my Black household, where humor and resilience reigned amidst mental health challenges, this short is a vivid tapestry of real and surreal experiences. My upbringing, marked by the spirited tales of brothers grappling with behavioral disorders, infuses the narrative with a surreal quality that transcends the ordinary.

Educated at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts and proven through my directorial successes, my storytelling weaves the fantastical elements of Afro-surrealism with poignant, comedic narratives. This project is more than a proof of concept; it's an exploration of diverse realities, blending heartfelt humor with the enchanting and often mystical aspects of Black culture.

In "Male Pattern Boredness," I present a narrative that is as whimsical as it is sincere, as otherworldly as it is grounded in real experiences. It's a celebration of my heritage and creativity, showcasing my commitment to telling stories that resonate with both the authenticity of lived experiences and the boundless imagination of the art form.
